Build on AvrioBooks

A secure API for apps that read an organisation’s master data and send it draft bills and invoices, with the customer in control.

The AvrioBooks API lets your software work with a customer’s books without anyone copying data by hand. Your app asks the customer to connect, they choose one organisation and approve exactly what your app may do, and from then on your app can read their chart of accounts, tax rates, contacts and bank accounts, and send them draft bills and invoices to review.

Nothing your app sends is posted automatically: every bill and invoice arrives as a draft that a person approves in AvrioBooks. Customers can disconnect your app at any time, and every connection and document is written to the organisation’s audit trail.

OAuth 2.0 with PKCE

The authorization code flow with S256 PKCE. A token works for one organisation only, and the organisation is never part of the URL.

Read master data

Read the chart of accounts, tax rates, contacts and bank accounts, with simple pagination.

Send draft bills and invoices

Create drafts with line items, accounts and tax rates. A retry with the same external id never creates a duplicate.

Attach the original file

Upload the PDF or image a bill came from, so reviewers see the source document next to the draft.

Check status

Read back the status of the documents your app created, to see whether a draft was approved.

Customer in control

Customers see and disconnect your app on their Connected apps page. Access stops at once, and every action is audited.

Get connected in four steps

  1. Create an account at AvrioBooks (a free trial is fine). Anyone with an account can use the developer portal.
  2. Register an app in the developer portal. Choose its name, redirect addresses and the most permissions it may ever ask for, and copy the client id and secret (shown once).
  3. Send the customer to AvrioBooks to approve. They pick one organisation and the permissions your app asked for.
  4. Call the API with the access token. Read the API documentation for every endpoint, field and error.

Frequently asked questions

Who can register an app?

Anyone with an AvrioBooks account. Open the developer portal at app.avriobooks.com/developers, create an app and you receive a client id and a client secret.

What can an app do?

Three permissions (scopes) are available: master:read to read the chart of accounts, tax rates, contacts and bank accounts; documents:write to create draft bills and invoices and attach files; and documents:read to see the status of the documents the app created.

Does the API post anything automatically?

No. Bills and invoices sent through the API are always created as drafts. A person reviews and approves them inside AvrioBooks.

Are there rate limits?

Yes. The API allows 120 requests a minute per connection, and the token endpoints allow 30 calls a minute per address. Over the limit you receive HTTP 429, so wait and retry.

Will my app be verified?

New apps start as unverified, and the customer’s consent screen shows a notice. Ask AvrioBooks to verify your app by emailing [email protected] once it is ready.

Is there a webhook for changes?

Not yet. Poll the documents endpoint to see the status of documents your app created.
